Effect of trisomy 6 on recombination in chromosome 9 of maize.
نویسنده
چکیده
The effect of an additional chromosome 6 upon recombination in chromosome 9 was investigated in maize. Trisomic 6 plants and their disomic sibs, heterozygous for three loci of chromosome 9 (yg, sh and wx), were testcrossed, and recombination in the regions yg-sh and sh-wx was analyzed. Single exchanges in the sh-wx region and double exchanges were more frequent in trisomics, particularly in female flowers.--In reciprocal testcrosses, higher male crossover rates were found for the sh-wx region, and the difference was enhanced in trisomic 6 plants.

I-35: Polar Body Analysis by Array CGH Identifies Women with Varying Susceptibility to Aneuploidy and Suggests that Non-disjunction Is Not The Predominant Mechanism Leading to Aneuploidy in Humans
Background: The maternal age effect for trisomy is well known. However what is less established is whether certain women are more (or less) prone to segregation errors, independent of age. Trisomy arises primarily through maternal meiosis I chromosome segregation errors however the precise mechanism by which these errors occur is unclear. Current dogma attributes the origin of trisomy to malseg...
متن کاملChiasma F'requency and Distribution in a Maize Family Segregating for Kio and Trisomy
Chiasma frequency was determined from total chiasma counts, and the distribution of these exchanges was determined by the ratio of proximal to distal chiasmata. No effect of trisomy IO could be demonstrated. Confirmation was obtained of earlier work showing more proximal and fewer distal chiasmata in K10 plants than in controls. However, diakinesis data failed to confirm the ability of KIO to i...
متن کاملReport of a Case with Trisomy 9 Mosaicism
Trisomy 9 is a rare chromosome disorder with high neonatal mortality. It is often seen in mosaic form. Most patients who survive are severely mentally retarded. The main features of this syndrome are "bulbous" nose, microphthalmia, dislocated limbs, and other anomalies of skeletal, cardiac, genitourinary, and central nervous system. Most patients have developmental and cognitive impairment. Pat...
متن کاملApplication of Molecular DNA Markers (STRs) in Molecular Diagnosis of Down Syndrome in Iran
Down syndrome is one of the most common causes of mental retardation observed in approximately 1/700 live birth. The use of two or more STR markers related to chromosome 21 facilitates the diagnosis of Down syndrome within about six hours from the collection of the samples. This is the first study has been performed in Iranian population to assess the diagnostic value of using small tandem repe...
متن کاملThe Waxy Locus in Maize III. Effect of Structural Heterozygosity on Intragenic Recombination and Flanking Marker Assortment.
The effect of heterozygosity for structural rearrangements on recombination between two wx heteroalleles (C and 90) and the pattern of flanking markers in the resultant Wx gametes has been examined. The rearrangements are Tp9, an insertional translocation in which a segment of chromosome 3 has been inserted into the short arm of chromosome 9 close to the wx locus; In9a, a long pericentric inver...
